About Distract & Craft by Martha Valenta

Hang out.
Make stuff.
No judgment.

WHO:

Hi, I'm Martha. I'm an ADHD artist who kept saving craft ideas and never making them. So I started a whole event about it. You're welcome.

Distract & Craft is designed by and for neurodiverse adults — but everyone 18+ is welcome. If you've ever needed background noise to focus, finished a project at 1am on a Tuesday, or bought supplies for a hobby you haven't started yet… you're our people.

WHAT IS THIS?

Distract & Craft is a monthly social crafting hangout in St. Louis. We make things together — because crafting side by side is just better than doing it alone on your couch at 2am.

Every month there's a new, beginner-friendly craft with all the materials ready to go (prices vary). Or bring your own project for $5 and just come hang out. There's no instructor breathing down your neck. No judgement.Just good company and something to do with your hands.

Oh—and we might have a movie, podcast, audiobook, or music playing in the background while we craft. :)

WHY:

  • Because my craft stash and saved projects are outta control.

  • Because we need more analog time.

  • Because I always wanted to try [insert craft here] but, I’m scared to start without someone who knows what they’re doing nearby.

  • Because not everything has to be productive to be worth doing.

  • Because your hands need something to do while you talk.

  • Because "I'll [start/finish] that craft project eventually" has been going on for years.

  • Because glue guns.

  • Because nobody here cares if you restart it four times.

  • Because making stuff just hits different when someone else is doing it too (hello, body doubling).

(It's a real makerspace with real tables and great lighting. Not a bar. Not someone's garage.)
